As she descended, the water temperature began to cool, the sea turned to a brilliant gemstone blue, and schools of tiny fish flashed all around her. Peering down, a kaleidoscopic world of bright tropical color began to emerge from the sandy sea floor.

She hit the valve on her vest, pumping air from her tank to slow her descent. And as her buoyancy stabilized a few feet above the coral reef, she spread her arms as if to fly, letting the gentle undersea currents carry her effortlessly through the mystical marine environment.

Gliding over the brightly colored fantasy world like a great bird skimming the treetops, she gazed in amazement upon deep red fire coral, pink rose anemone, bright orange starfish, and spiny purple sea urchin. Chalky white seashell covered the sandy bottom, beautifully complimenting the deep indigo sea like an ancient Greek village.

Lost in a fantasy of vibrant color and thriving marine life, she became one with the coral reef. In the calmness of the depths, she wondered how long it had been here and, realizing that the delicate coral animals would be some of the first impacted by changing sea temperatures, she wondered whether it would be here were she ever to return.

As her tank ran low, she reluctantly hit the valve on her vest one last time, filling it with air to float her back to the surface. Just as she began to rise above the colorful coral reef, a giant green sea turtle glided out of the depths and circled curiously around her, as if to bid her farewell. Looking into its wide calf-like eyes only a few feet away, she felt a tremendous sense of responsibility to protect this vulnerable animal and its delicate undersea home.

As she ascended, she watched the gentle green sea turtle glide off over the coral reef and into the indigo sea. Thanking it for allowing her to glimpse its undersea fantasy world, she vowed to do everything in her power to ensure that one day, her children would experience the incredible parallel universe of life and color that exists peacefully all around us, yet unseen by most.

And maybe, she thought, if we act soon enough, my children may someday glide over this very same coral reef and gaze into the eyes of a baby green sea turtle, and together the next generation will live in harmony, respecting and admiring each other, just as nature intended.
